FSW System for Tanks and Tank Bottoms

For applications in the commercial vehicle industry, HAGE realized an FSW system for producing high-quality aluminium containers, shell courses and tank bottoms.

Rolled and semi-round sheets are joined using friction stir welding, resulting in smooth seams that require virtually no rework. Compared with conventional fusion welding processes, the method reduces grinding effort, welding fumes and physically demanding post-processing.

The system is designed for blanks with weld seam lengths of up to 4 m and cylindrical workpieces up to 3.8 m in diameter. With RPT technology, the pin length is automatically adjusted to the respective material thickness before each welding operation. Weld gap control and process parameter recording ensure transparency and quality in industrial series production.
